Four decades of building healthcare — from the operating theatre to turnkey hospitals, medical technology and health IT.
“Turning the most expensive business decisions into profitable hospital ventures.”
About
Dr. Mukesh Daftary is a Mumbai-based physician-entrepreneur whose career spans the full arc of healthcare — clinician, hospital owner, administrator, consultant and medical-technology businessman. Qualified as an anesthesiologist (M.B.B.S., D.A., M.D.), he practised in government and private hospitals from 1982 to 2005 while simultaneously owning and managing a multispecialty nursing home for twenty-five years.
That rare combination — treating patients in the theatre while running the institution around it — became the foundation of Hospicon, the hospital planning, design and turnkey project consultancy he founded in 1981, and of Biomed Healthtech Pvt Ltd, the medical technology company he has led as Managing Director since 1989. In 1992 he extended into health IT, founding a medical software venture that grew into a private limited company.
His work has taken him to twenty-seven countries and earned him formal recognition on three continents — three awards from the UK Government’s Trade & Investment division, an award from the US Government’s Department of Trade and Commerce, an award from the Hong Kong Government, and an award from the King of Lagos, Nigeria, for training doctors in Lagos hospitals. He was also selected by the British Euro Service Group — ahead of four competing international consultants — to deliver the feasibility study for a hospital at Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt.
A disciplined, dedicated achiever and visionary with excellent leadership and motivational skills.— Professional positioning, Hospicon profile
Twenty-three years of anesthesiology practice across government and private hospitals — every consulting decision is grounded in clinical reality.
Founder or principal of three healthcare businesses — consulting, medical technology and health IT — built and led over four decades.
Engagements and business travel across 27 countries, from the UK and USA to Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya and Malaysia; honoured by four governments.
Fifty-five hands-on workshops conducted across India, Nairobi and Lagos — awarded by the King of Lagos, Nigeria, for training doctors in Lagos hospitals.
At a Glance
Every figure below is drawn from Dr. Daftary’s published professional profile — nothing is estimated.
Profile
Dr. Daftary belongs to the small group of healthcare leaders who have practised medicine, owned a hospital business and consulted on building them. As a hospital consultant he has handled strategic planning, project conceptualisation and layout design, market surveys and feasibility analysis, finance planning, taxation, budgeting and costing, department and specialty planning, and equipment and human-resource planning — complemented in recent years by medical IT services, cloud implementation and DevOps.
At Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai, as Assistant Executive Vice President, his remit covered business development, consultant appointments, specialty OPD planning, staff training, costing and profitability analysis, protocol development and expansion planning — with exposure to general, surgical, neuro-surgical, cardiac, orthopedic, ophthalmic, gynecology and obstetrics departments.

Health-IT business subsequently incorporated as a private limited company.

Practice Areas
A turnkey practice covering every stage of a healthcare project — select an area to explore its scope.
The discipline of proving a hospital will work — clinically and commercially — before a brick is laid. The Sharm-El-Sheikh feasibility study, won ahead of four international consultancies, was built on this practice.
Hospital architecture is unlike any other building type — clinical workflow, infection control and engineering services must be designed together, with a declared specialisation in green, eco-friendly hospitals.
Three decades of running a medical technology company inform equipment decisions — what to buy, what to skip, and what a department genuinely needs to open.
From an owner-administrator’s vantage point — twenty-five years of running his own nursing home — the practice covers the operational birth and ongoing health of a facility.
Hospitals are among the most expensive business decisions their promoters ever make; this practice exists to make them profitable ones.
The medical technology arm supplies and supports clinical technology for hospitals across specialties, alongside medical IT, cloud implementation and DevOps services.

Awards & recognition
Most hospital consultants have either practised medicine or run projects. Dr. Daftary has done both — and owned the balance sheet in between. His work has been honoured with three awards from the UK Government’s Trade & Investment division, an award from the US Government’s Department of Trade and Commerce, an award from the Hong Kong Government, and an award from the King of Lagos, Nigeria, for training doctors in Lagos hospitals.
He was also selected by a British consulting group over four international rivals to deliver a hospital feasibility study in Egypt — the measure of a consultant trusted across governments and continents.
“Build your dream hospital — and make it a profitable one.”
